The CBA for Filmmakers
The CBA for Filmmakers covers directors, assistant directors, production managers, unit managers, camera people, costume designers, make-up artists, sound engineers, etc. The CBA is enforced in Austria and abroad for all contracts between audio-visual and film production companies, which are members of the labor union, and their employees, regadless of their nationality.
The CBA does not cover members of the board of directors, directors, CEOs or executives. Equally, interns, volunteer actors and extras are excluded from the agreement. Both, temporary and open-ended contracts are subject to the CBA.
Work hours
A typical work week in Austria has 40 hours between Monday and Friday. A different collective bargaining agreement may be made, or; if the company has no union representative, individual agreements may be drawn up. A normal work day consists of eight hours between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., which may be extended to nine hours per day. Project-related, time-limited work contracts which comply with labor laws may contain a blanket arrangement of 40 hours per week plus 1 – 2 hours overtime per weekday and 10 hours on Saturdays between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., amounting to a 60-hour work week.
Furthermore, the CBA regulates wages, compensation for overtime, weekend and holiday work as well as night work and vacation time.
