Austria’s investment in the film industry
In order to promote an independent Austrian film industry, both the Austrian Federal government and various regional governments have created film funds, which offer financial support, mostly for feature and television films. Total funding from national and regional governments amounted to 52.7 million Euro in 2010.
International film, television, and documentary productions may have equal eligibility for support. Some regional funding sources require the involvement of an Austrian co-producer who also has to submit the application. If needed, Location Austria will gladly assist in the search for an Austrian co-production partner. Some regional funds do not require an Austrian co-production partner. Productions eligible for funding have to comply with the respective funding guidelines, such as hiring local film crews.
